Exporting Meat to Mauritius: Import Permit and Health Certificate Requirements

This Market Access Advice (MAA) provides information on the requirements for including import permit
details on health certificates for meat and meat products to Mauritius.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has clarified and confirmed with
the Division of Veterinary Services of Mauritius the requirement to include import permit numbers on
health certificates for export of meat and meat products to Mauritius.
Mauritian import regulations require all health certificates to include the import permit number and date
of issue for each consignment. Multiple import permits may be included on a single health certificate
provided the meat products are the same species, (for example, all beef products). Meat from different
species (such as bovine and ovine) cannot be included on the same health certificate. Please note, import
permits are issued per consignment and cannot be used across multiple health certificate.

Exporters are no longer required to present the import permit to the department before a health
certificate can be issued. It is the responsibility of the exporter to ensure they have a valid import permit
and the number is entered correctly on the health certificate.
The Manual of Importing Country Requirements (Micor) will be updated to reflect this market access
advice. The department encourages users of Micor to subscribe to the Micor update service for a
commodity-specific email that lists changes that have been made in the preceding week.
The department encourages all exporters to work with their importer to ensure that product meets the
current importing country requirements.
